What is a BTU?

1 BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by one degree from 60° to 61° Fahrenheit at a constant pressure of one atmosphere. As a general rule we advise you to buy an Air Conditioner with a minimum 7,000BTUs as this is the minimum required to cool a small room (18sq/m) on a hot day. Medium rooms (24sq/m) need around 10,000BTUs and larger rooms and office spaces (36sq/m) require around 15,000BTUs.

Question from Alex: Asked on 02/08/2011 Will the delivery drivers carry the unit upstairs for me on delivery?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 03/08/2011
Hi Alex. Our arrangement with the couriers is to the first door of the building. They may help you carry it upstairs but we cant guarantee that I'm sorry.

Question from Richard W: Asked on 02/08/2011 What is the difference between this and the other 15000 BTU Amcor that says it has a new design? Thx.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 03/08/2011
Its cosmetic only, the units are identical aside from the front design

Question from P, Addy: Asked on 11/07/2011 can the unit only be used as a dehumidifier only or does it only extract vapour when chilling or heating

Answer from mark h: Answered on 12/07/2011
On this model there are 3 modes, cooling, heating and fan only. It will dehumidify the air on Cooling mode only, but you could set the temperature to room temperature and it would dehumidify without cooling the air. The SF12000 also has 3 modes but has a specific dehumidify mode. Any units running a dehumidify only mode will need emptying

Question from Hot Jim: Asked on 04/07/2011 How easy is it to set up the exhaust hose? Does this product come with lots of accessories to allow the exhaust hose to be set up allowing a snug fitting through various sized opened windows?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 04/07/2011
These are easy to fit and use. The hose comes compacted for transit so you just need to pull it out and then screw it clockwise into the hose hole in the back of the unit. There is then a reducer that fits on the other end. The hose can just be hung out a window or if you prefer it comes with a sliding bar that the hose can fit into which can help seal the gap in a sash or sliding window. For most people using this part isn't necessary

Question from Carlos: Asked on 27/06/2011 Office in basement with no windows, the closest window is on other side. Can I run a long hose to the nearest window which is about 15 meters away? Or can I run some ductwork and use an extractor on the outside 15 metes away to expell the air. There is a concealed ceiling, can I expel the air into the ceiling? I was just wondering that it is in a basement so the moist air being expelled in that ceiling would not be a good thing?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 28/06/2011
You wouldn't be able to extend the hose to 15m, and it wouldn't really be advisable to vent into a space within a house as it will heat up the floor above. Ducting with a fan to draw out the hot air would be the best idea

Question from shumayl: Asked on 27/06/2011 Does it make a lot of noise whilst operating?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 27/06/2011
They are fairly quiet around the same as a bathroom or kitchen extractor at 49 dB

Question from erik: Asked on 04/06/2011 Can the hose for this unit stretch up to a top-hung or awning window that has a base that opens at approx. 4 feet from the floor? Is it possible to extend the hose? Does the unit come with any accessories to attatch to a sliding door in the alternative?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 06/06/2011
The hose is 1.5M but attaches to the unit around 30cm off the ground, so you would be very close to your 4ft. Its comes with a fishtail reducer and also a sliding bar for a sash or sliding window. This opens out to aprox 1.5 so wouldn't be quite big enough for a door. You cant really extend the hose as it causes heat to back up in the unit and reduces efficiency, however a very small extension piece up to 30cm wouldn't cause any issues

Question from max: Asked on 25/05/2011 If it breaks down, will u collect & fix at no cost for me?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 26/05/2011
These units are very reliable and we have been selling them for years without any issues, but in the unlikely event yes we will. In most cases a new unit will be provided due to the time it takes for a repair.
