Question from Mat: Asked on 10/08/2010 Are the fittings supplied appropriate for venting the unit through the wall?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 11/08/2010
No you would require a wall vent kit. These can be purchased from most DIY shops

Question from StuMcp: Asked on 30/06/2010 I am planning to use this model to cool an enclosed server room with no windows of about 3 metres x3 metres x3 metres, so would need to vent into the corridor, would this work, and is it suitable for a server room?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 01/07/2010
Depending on how many servers you have this may or may not be powerful enough. We have used some of the 15000 BTU versions exactly as you have described in our server rooms when the main aircon has gone down with good effect. Would say that you would need around 5000BTU's per cabinet in that size of room

Question from Darren: Asked on 27/06/2010 We have a room with limited space, given the house comes out the back, how far out from the wall would the front of the air conditioner need to be?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 28/06/2010
If the hose is going through a wall vent it could be essentially flush with the wall, if its going out a window then you would need around 20cm

Question from John W: Asked on 25/06/2010 Where would you put the exhaust hose in a room that has no windows? Would it be okay to drain this into a bucket or similar container?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 25/06/2010
They need to be vented outside either through a window or a wall vent. Some people may vent them into the loft space. Hot air comes out of the hose not water, so a bucket isnt needed

Question from luke: Asked on 24/06/2010 can this unit become a heater in the colder months or does it just cool the air?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 25/06/2010
It can be used to maintain the air temperature between 18-30° C, so essentially yes, however, unless you require the benefits of the dehumidification in winter also, you would be better off with a model with a dedicated heater function or to just use a heater as this will be more cost efficient

Question from kudravlu: Asked on 24/06/2010 Is there a window adapter kit supplied with this model? If not, can you just put the hose out of the partially opened window and it will still work?
Thanks

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/06/2010
There isn't a window kit for this model, however putting a hose out of a window is perfectly ok. For optimum efficiency in theory all windows and doors should be closed, however this can make rooms oxygen deprived so we believe some fresh air is a good idea.

Question from Adam: Asked on 23/06/2010 i would like to slightly/generally cool the upstairs of my house (not totally reduce one room temp)though the summer, 3 rooms average 10*10ft, what size unit would I need.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/06/2010
For the size you would require a 12,000 BTU unit in a open area, however due to the fact they are separate rooms you will probably find that the room the unit is in gets much colder than the others

Question from Alex: Asked on 05/06/2010 Can I extend the 1.5m Hose ?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/06/2010
Sorry the hose cant be extended

Question from gwyd: Asked on 05/06/2010 Is it ok to vent into a loft cavity (quite large) or will it cause humidity problems?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/06/2010
In hot weather that would be fine. In cold weather its possible that the small amount of moisture may condense in your loft, but if its a large area its unlikely it would make any difference.

Question from Lisa: Asked on 05/06/2010 what is the small outlet at the bottom for? we have one of these air conditioners that has been in storage for 3 months, and now we're worried what is supposed to happen to that - are we supposed to drain it regularly or something.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/06/2010
Ideally they should be drained before being stored. Depending on the humidity when it was being used you may find there isn't any water in there anyway. It wont damage the unit, but if there is water left in there it may smell.

Question from rob: Asked on 04/06/2010 could you tell me the cost per hour to run this please

Question from Jason: Asked on 04/06/2010 does this item come with a remote control

Question from Juliet: Asked on 04/06/2010 Hello
Do you supply blanking plates with the right size holes in to go in the window where the hose goes through please?
Thank you

Answer from mark h: Answered on 04/06/2010
No we dont for this model im afraid

Question from Juliet: Asked on 04/06/2010 I have 3 questions please -
1. do you supply a really quiet portable Air con unit please? 50db is quite loud to have on -all the time - like a fridge I think?
2. Your product spec states Energy Rating C but in your Q+A you have replied that it is Rating B. Which is it please?

3You state is 3-5years as a lifespan - is this a usual lifespan for such an item - what happens then does it just have to be thrown away? Thank you

Answer from mark h: Answered on 04/06/2010
49dB is the quietest we have in stock this year, very few are quieter than this. The energy rating on these are now C, they have been reclassified for the latest batch. You can get them re-gassed (the same as you would a car system) but in most cases its more cost efficient to dispose of and purchase another

Question from 636212: Asked on 02/06/2010 I was hoping to purchase one of the units for my grandmothers maisonette. is it safe to use and how easy is it to use when I am not around.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 03/06/2010
Yes, safe to use and simple to operate. Comes with full instructions to set the required mode and temperature

Question from Vince: Asked on 25/05/2010 As all the water vapour is vented through the pipe, will the far end of the pipe drip or will the water still be vapour when it comes out i.e. and evaporate?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 25/05/2010
Unless the outside temperature is very cold causing it to condense it will still be vapour and evaporate.

Question from ste: Asked on 24/05/2010 i was thinking about getting one of these for my bedroom and was wondering if the machine is noisy? cheers

Answer from mark h: Answered on 25/05/2010
The noise of the unit is 49dB

Question from Andy Gold: Asked on 24/05/2010 Hi I have bought a Air con unit from you stock code no. 636212 and would like to know if I can shorten the hose? I want it to go through the wall which would shorten it to about 500-600mm is this feasable?

Andy G.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 25/05/2010
Yes, that's not problem. The hose can be as short as required.

Question from Lisa: Asked on 24/05/2010 I live on a top floor flat in a very small room, so was hoping to get an airconditioning unit to cool it. However, my neighbours bedroom window is very close to mine so if I put the hose out the window would this cause any noise or discomfort to them? Thanks

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
Its possible that the hot air may blow through their window, but they wont hear any noise

Question from Els: Asked on 23/05/2010 Had a conservatory put up last year and it gets very hot in the morning to early afternoon. The conservatory is 4m x 3m. What would you reccomend to keep the conservatory cool ?
Also with the windows of the conservatory are positioned high. Having the hose running vertical to get out the window, will this cause a problem with getting rid of water?
Thanks

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
It depends on how much sun you get. The dimensions would suggest a model around 9000BTU however if its very sunny consider a 12000 or even 15000. Bear in mind the hoses are 1.5m, but they can be positioned vertically

Question from Jo D: Asked on 23/05/2010 How long does the refridgerent last? Can you supply replacement refridgerent? Thanks

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
The refrigerant would last for the life of the unit 3-5 years depending on usage.

Question from chris westwood: Asked on 23/05/2010 hi,can a longer hose be purchased for this unit?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
Unfortunately you cannot extend the hose

Question from Dave: Asked on 23/05/2010 i am looking at the AirConDirect 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner for the attic which is small. i would like to know if i need a hose with this unit as there is a skylight window in. if i do need a hose, is there a portable unit that wont require a hose? thanks Dave

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
Yes you will require a hose that can be vented externally. Due to their nature all aircons will require a way of getting the heat out, so all portables have a hose.

Question from Paul W: Asked on 23/05/2010 I am wanting to use this unit to cool a small computer room venting directly above the AC unit through an existing 4 inch fan hole. Previous Q&A says that the water produced is vented through the pipe. Is there any danger of water lodging at the base of the pipe or leaking from the unit?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
Providing the pipe is fitted securely into the unit and the drain plug is firmly in there wouldn't be any water leaking.

Question from Matt C: Asked on 22/05/2010 Are there any cooling units out there that are battery powered? I hav a shed at the end of the garden, want to store wine there but don't fancy the cost of getting mains power to it...Can you help?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
Sorry, they are all mains powered

Question from Dexter1759: Asked on 22/05/2010 Is it possible to have/get an extended hose for this unit? I'd like to have the unit the opposite end of the room from the window, because there is a double bed in the way!

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
Sorry, the hose cant be extended

Question from Ali T: Asked on 22/05/2010 I don't mind putting the hose out of the window but was wondering can I use one of those tumble dyer condenser boxes

Answer from mark h: Answered on 24/05/2010
It possible you could depending on the capacity of hot air it can take

Question from Tris: Asked on 18/05/2010 I am planning on using this Air-Con in a bedroom L -3.7m, W - 2.7m, H - 2.4m in size. I would be unable to put the outlet hose out the window or into a stair well and would like to know if leaving the door open enough to direct the 13cm outlet hose into the rest of the flat would work well enough, or would this compromise how the Air-Con works. Thanks :)

Answer from mark h: Answered on 19/05/2010
That wouldnt be a problem, for this size of room you would only require 4300BTU but it will make the rest of the flat very hot.

Question from David: Asked on 16/05/2010 I would like to use portable air con to cool 2 X 1 cupboard housing computer equipment. Want to exhaust through ceiling. Is this arrangement feasible?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 17/05/2010
Yes it would be suitable if the 1.5m hose is long enough to go through the ceiling.

Question from Daniel: Asked on 29/04/2010 How can you call these 'Green' units? They run on R407c which use more energy than R22 and are less efficient and so therefore are less 'environmently friendly'.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 30/04/2010
R-22 damages the ozone which is the whole point of green refrigerants like R407C. After 1st January 2010 no more virgin refrigerant R22 can be used in existing systems. There are currently no restrictions on equipment or use of the following refrigerants: R134A, R407C, R410A, and R417A.

Question from Si: Asked on 27/04/2010 What is the energy efficiency of this unit and does the air filter also filter out pollen? Thanks, Si

Answer from mark h: Answered on 28/04/2010
Its B Rated for energy. Its not a purifier so it wont filter out pollen

Question from foads_com: Asked on 16/04/2010 What size is the vent pipe? We intend making this a semi perminant fixture so need to know how big to make the hole for the vent. Thanks, Bob

Answer from mark h: Answered on 16/04/2010
The manufacturer quote the diameter of the hose as 13cm however we would recommend that you double check this once received before you drill any permanent holes

Question from james: Asked on 26/02/2010 does this product have a storage tank for the dehumidifier if so how big is it.
