Question from Michael: Asked on 08/01/2013 At what level do I need to set the dehumidify so that the condensation/moisture on the window and wall/ceiling and the damp smell in the room will no longer there?

Answer from Gavin: Answered on 09/01/2013
I would just put it on the maximum setting.

To be honest I didn't realise there was a range of productivity, should just be on and off.

If in doubt contact the manufacturer.

Thanks

Question from Roy: Asked on 09/12/2012 I'm thinking about purchasing a number of these units for rental properties but I'm failing to find an Amcor service centre in the UK, what is the position regarding out of warranty service&parts?

Answer from Gavin: Answered on 09/12/2012
Hi Roy, they do not have a UK presence, so we hold the warranty for them ourselves.

Thanks

Question from mark: Asked on 15/11/2012 Does this unit have a timer to preset start and stop times or is the 24hr timer just to set a number of hours to run for?

Answer from Gavin: Answered on 21/11/2012
Hi, yes it will.

Thanks

Question from DCQ: Asked on 11/11/2011 The Amcor PLDM18E manufacturers manual states that the unit must not be used with an extension cable, why is this?

Answer from Gavin: Answered on 13/11/2011
Hi, this unit does not actively 'push' out the hot air and moisture. Therefore extending the length of the exhust hose means the moisture takes longer to purge. This is exaggerated if the cable is running straight up to your vent above the unit.

This is not to say it will not work, it is just not recomended as it will decrease the overall life of this product.

Regards

Question from Qutachi: Asked on 24/01/2011 Is it possible to use it everyday night from 12 to 6.00. Does this put the compressor under stress?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 26/01/2011
They are designed to run continuously for long periods of time so this wouldnt be a problem.

Question from richard: Asked on 19/01/2011 Does the unit have an automatic defrost function please?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 20/01/2011
This model doesn't have this feature. Within the parameters of normal operation (above 5 degrees C) it wont freeze up. Its generally only commercial units that have automatic hot gas defrost so they can work at lower temperatures

Question from steve craft: Asked on 13/01/2011 i have a tiled standard size single garage with tiled floor hence floor moisture at present is high, will this do the job or would you advise a differerent model for that specifice job

Answer from mark h: Answered on 14/01/2011
Providing the temperature doesn't drop below 5 degree C then this would be more than suitable. This would easily dehumidify a much larger space

Question from keith: Asked on 06/01/2011 Does the display show actual ambient RH, as well as the target RH.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/01/2011
You need to scroll through the display but both the current level and target level can be viewed

Question from keith: Asked on 06/01/2011 To update from earlier models and questions, what is the noise rating and maximum power consumption, and is the 18L capacity measured at the european standard of 30C/80%RH.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 07/01/2011
Currently this is 42dB and 280W on maximum power. At 30degreesC/80%RH the extraction rate is 16L in a 24h period. These figures are kind of irrelevant in this country anyway as it would be an unusual situation to have 80% humidity and 30 degrees C

Question from Didi: Asked on 06/01/2011 Is this a absorption dehumidifier, or it's a compressor type dehumidifier?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 06/01/2011
It uses a compressor

Question from Maria: Asked on 30/12/2010 Where is the unit made? How does it compare with the Meaco 10L and Edac 15L units?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 30/12/2010
The Amcor's are made in China as are the Meacos. Ebac are assembled in the UK thought the majority of components come from China.
As the Amcor PLDM18E aren't sold anymore in Europe we have imported these directly from the factory in China as in our opinion these are the best 18L unit on the market in this price bracket and also far superior to the Amazon15. The Meaco10L in its own right is a very good unit, though as its a smaller capacity not really comparable to the Amcor

Question from Chris: Asked on 29/11/2010 Hi, Does this model have wheels to make moving around easier? I ask as I am trying to source a dehumidifier for my 81 yr old Mother who has had cavity wall insulation installed in her bungalow this year and complains all she seems to do is wipe the windows every day. Thanks

Answer from mark h: Answered on 29/11/2010
Yes this model has castors fitted and is relatively lightweight and compact compared to other units in the 18l Day range

Question from Gully: Asked on 27/11/2010 Does this product switch off or automatically adjust when the temperature/needs change?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 29/11/2010
Yes it will switch off when the set humidity levels are reached and back on again when this is exceeded. The unit only regulates the humidity not the temperature

Question from Alex: Asked on 26/11/2010 What refridgerant does this use? Does it contain freon?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 29/11/2010
This unit uses R407C. All of our Dehumidifiers and Airconditioners are CFC free and use R407C, R410A or R134a refrigerant.

Question from samd: Asked on 26/11/2010 At what temperature does the air come out at?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 29/11/2010
This will depend on the air temperature but due to the way it operates it will come out very slightly cooler than the ambient temperature

Question from Dave Smith: Asked on 25/11/2010 Regarding the Amcor PLDM18E - would this be suitable for a standard size garage, please?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 29/11/2010
The size wouldn't be an issue, however if the temperature drops to freezing while the unit is in operation it could be damaged. Ideally the temperature would need to be above 4 or 5 Degrees C for it to operate efficiently.

Question from Bryan Fox: Asked on 21/11/2010 Will this unit be damaged if the temperature drops below 5 degrees whilst it is switched on? I am thinking of using one to keep my motorhome dry through the winter

Answer from mark h: Answered on 22/11/2010
The minimum effective operating temperature for this unit is 5 degrees, under that and it wont remove much moisture.

Question from wedhappily: Asked on 16/11/2010 Does this dehumidifier have a Ultra Violet light function? If not, do you offer any models that do? Thanks.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 18/11/2010
Sorry we don't have any with a UV light. This feature is mainly found on Air purifiers and some high end dehumidifiers

Question from jules: Asked on 16/11/2010 Does the Amcor PLDM18E Dehumidifier operate using a humidistat? If not is it just either simply on or off operation?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 16/11/2010
The humidity can be set between 40% and 80% in increments of 5%. When the humidity levels drop below, the unit will continue to circulate the air with the fan and will automatically start to dehumidify again once over the range set.

Question from Betsy: Asked on 15/11/2010 How noisy is this unit?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 16/11/2010
In older units it was 45dB but now Amcor have used a different compressor so its now even quieter at 42dB

Question from Stewart: Asked on 14/11/2010 My girlfriend suffers from asthma, her house she is living in is damp and has more trouble breathing is this dehumidifier just as effective in allowing her to breathe easier or do I want a different product such as an air purifier?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 16/11/2010
A dehumidifier will remove moisture out of the air getting rid of damp. Air purifiers will remove pollen, animal dander, dust, mites, smoke and other pollutants. It sounds like you need a dehumidifier not a purifier. With this dehumidifier you can set the humidity level so that the air doesn't become too dry which can also be a trigger for Asthma.

Question from shaun: Asked on 10/11/2010 What is the energy efficiency rating for the amcor PLDM18E 18L Day Dehumidifier.

There isn't an energy rating for this model but the power consumption is 280W, this is low in comparison to another 18L day model the 2650e which is 360W

Question from jol: Asked on 10/11/2010 Does it have a built in heater?

Answer from mark h: Answered on 10/11/2010
No heater, just a dehumidifier

It would be unwise to drink the water as there may be bacteria present.

Answer from mark h: Answered on 04/03/2009
