What is a BTU?

1 BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by one degree from 60° to 61° Fahrenheit at a constant pressure of one atmosphere. As a general rule we advise you to buy an Air Conditioner with a minimum 7,000BTUs as this is the minimum required to cool a small room (18sq/m) on a hot day. Medium rooms (24sq/m) need around 10,000BTUs and larger rooms and office spaces (36sq/m) require around 15,000BTUs.

The hoses are 130mm so any wall vent larger will accommodate it. Most DIY superstores sell hard plastic wall vents in a variety of colours with a cover so they can be sealed for the months you aren't using the air conditioner

All true air conditioning units will all need to be vented unfortunately, the only units which don't require venting are Air coolers but these aren't as powerful or efficient for cooling a whole room

Providing the unit is the right capacity for the room size they will all be able to drop the temperature to 18 degrees C

We would courier collect the unit and return it. In most cases they are replaced due to the time it takes for a repair, and the turn around time is generally 5 days.

Yes it can be, its fitted with castors to aid mobility. The unit will need to be externally vented either through a window or wall vent

If your previous model was a portable unit then there would be no problem cooling, however these units aren't designed for continuous 24/7 use. Most server rooms will use a Hi wall split system

Question from degsy16: Asked on 23/08/2010 doesn't there need to be an open door or window slightly for the exhaust outlet to pull air into, to vent out of the window via the pipe as when i hear the compressor kicking in it pulls the living room door open a bit because its obviously trying to pull air out of the room to go out of the window (model amcor plasma 12.000)

If a door or window is open slightly the fresh air drawn in can stop the air becoming oxygen deprived, however if the air outside is significantly warmer it will be harder to reduce the temperature inside the room so often closing all the windows and doors is the recommended option

The fixing kits are designed to work best with Sash windows, but by using the pipe reducer the hose can be hung out a casement or awning window. Although the widows wont be sealed like a Sash, the performance wouldn't be affected significantly
