mark h: The manufacturer quote the diameter of the hose as 13cm however we would recommend that you double check this once received before you drill any permanent holes

29-Apr-2010 Daniel: How can you call these 'Green' units? They run on R407c which use more energy than R22 and are less efficient and so therefore are less 'environmently friendly'.

mark h: R-22 damages the ozone which is the whole point of green refrigerants like R407C. After 1st January 2010 no more virgin refrigerant R22 can be used in existing systems. There are currently no restrictions on equipment or use of the following refrigerants: R134A, R407C, R410A, and R417A.

16-May-2010 David: I would like to use portable air con to cool 2 X 1 cupboard housing computer equipment. Want to exhaust through ceiling. Is this arrangement feasible?

mark h: Yes it would be suitable if the 1.5m hose is long enough to go through the ceiling.

18-May-2010 Tris: I am planning on using this Air-Con in a bedroom L -3.7m, W - 2.7m, H - 2.4m in size. I would be unable to put the outlet hose out the window or into a stair well and would like to know if leaving the door open enough to direct the 13cm outlet hose into the rest of the flat would work well enough, or would this compromise how the Air-Con works. mark h: That wouldnt be a problem, for this size of room you would only require 4300BTU but it will make the rest of the flat very hot.

23-May-2010 Paul W: I am wanting to use this unit to cool a small computer room venting directly above the AC unit through an existing 4 inch fan hole. Previous Q&A says that the water produced is vented through the pipe. Is there any danger of water lodging at the base of the pipe or leaking from the unit?

mark h: Providing the pipe is fitted securely into the unit and the drain plug is firmly in there wouldn't be any water leaking.

23-May-2010 Dave: i am looking at the AirConDirect 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner for the attic which is small. i would like to know if i need a hose with this unit as there is a skylight window in. if i do need a hose, is there a portable unit that wont require a hose? thanks Dave

mark h: Yes you will require a hose that can be vented externally. Due to their nature all aircons will require a way of getting the heat out, so all portables have a hose.

23-May-2010 Els: Had a conservatory put up last year and it gets very hot in the morning to early afternoon. The conservatory is 4m x 3m. What would you reccomend to keep the conservatory cool ? Also with the windows of the conservatory are positioned high. Having the hose running vertical to get out the window, will this cause a problem with getting rid of water? Thanks

mark h: It depends on how much sun you get. The dimensions would suggest a model around 9000BTU however if its very sunny consider a 12000 or even 15000. Bear in mind the hoses are 1.5m, but they can be positioned vertically

24-May-2010 Lisa: I live on a top floor flat in a very small room, so was hoping to get an airconditioning unit to cool it. However, my neighbours bedroom window is very close to mine so if I put the hose out the window would this cause any noise or discomfort to them? Thanks

mark h: Its possible that the hot air may blow through their window, but they wont hear any noise

mark h: Yes, that's not problem. The hose can be as short as required.

mark h: Unless the outside temperature is very cold causing it to condense it will still be vapour and evaporate.

mark h: 49dB is the quietest we have in stock this year, very few are quieter than this. The energy rating on these are now C, they have been reclassified for the latest batch. You can get them re-gassed (the same as you would a car system) but in most cases its more cost efficient to dispose of and purchase another

5-Jun-2010 Lisa: what is the small outlet at the bottom for? we have one of these air conditioners that has been in storage for 3 months, and now we're worried what is supposed to happen to that - are we supposed to drain it regularly or something.

mark h: Ideally they should be drained before being stored. Depending on the humidity when it was being used you may find there isn't any water in there anyway. It wont damage the unit, but if there is water left in there it may smell.

mark h: In hot weather that would be fine. In cold weather its possible that the small amount of moisture may condense in your loft, but if its a large area its unlikely it would make any difference.

mark h: For the size you would require a 12,000 BTU unit in a open area, however due to the fact they are separate rooms you will probably find that the room the unit is in gets much colder than the others

mark h: There isn't a window kit for this model, however putting a hose out of a window is perfectly ok. For optimum efficiency in theory all windows and doors should be closed, however this can make rooms oxygen deprived so we believe some fresh air is a good idea.

mark h: It can be used to maintain the air temperature between 18-30° C, so essentially yes, however, unless you require the benefits of the dehumidification in winter also, you would be better off with a model with a dedicated heater function or to just use a heater as this will be more cost efficient

mark h: They need to be vented outside either through a window or a wall vent. Some people may vent them into the loft space. Hot air comes out of the hose not water, so a bucket isnt needed

mark h: If the hose is going through a wall vent it could be essentially flush with the wall, if its going out a window then you would need around 20cm

mark h: Depending on how many servers you have this may or may not be powerful enough. We have used some of the 15000 BTU versions exactly as you have described in our server rooms when the main aircon has gone down with good effect. Would say that you would need around 5000BTU's per cabinet in that size of room
